RSA Journal

Since 2022 I have served as Editor of RSA Journal, the quarterly publication of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) which goes out to its 31,000-strong Fellowship. In 2023, I led a team in re-imagining how the Journal could transform in order to better connect with new audiences to drive Fellowship engagement and retention.

Following a period of research into the needs of the Fellowship and current RSA priorities, we collaborated with the RSA team to create a structured, creative and insight-driven campaign strategy that would ensure cohesion between print and digital while honouring the Journal’s historical depth and vision.

The Journal received a new, tailored visual identity, one that was ‘recognisably RSA’ but bold and individual, and which could radiate outwards from the print product to unite a full digital RSA Journal ecosystem.

We encouraged the RSA to be more holistic and ambitious in its commissioning, and I worked closely with its editorial board to provide recommendations for artists, designers, thought leaders, sector experts, activists and changemakers to feature in its pages. In my role as Editor I commission the content of the Journal, collaborating with numerous stakeholders to suggest and evolve themes for each edition (and topics within those) that allow for the fresh, original thinking for which the RSA is known.

My social team developed a suite of bespoke assets for LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, including long-form videos, carousels, animations and interactive graphics. To this end, we utilise A/B testing and analytics, allowing us to optimise content in real time and learn with each new post.

The impact has been transformative. Video views, impressions and engagement more than doubled, and in some cases tripled, with over one million impressions earned across platforms. Most notably, our video on Lewes FC, the first football club in the UK to pay its men’s and women’s teams equally, achieved 485,000 views in its first two months.

The campaign successfully positioned the RSA as a global thought leader, increased Fellowship engagement, and created meaningful connections with a new generation of Fellows and potential Fellows, while garnering numerous industry accolades along the way, including, most recently:
